I started off the 2022-2023 school year at Rochester Institute of Technology with not wanting to even join clubs, because I knew I had work and school. I went to Pulse Happy Hour, which is all of the NTID clubs together near the LBJ building on the dorms side. I walked in and saw all of my close friends, at a table for Doves Womxn Empowerment Club.
The girls all waved and saw me, they ushered me to come and I asked for an explanation of the club. They explained it's for anyone who wants to know more about feminism, as well as including every gender-- men, women, and non-binary people who just want a place to hangout with other genders and just get to know each other.
I thought to myself, "Huh, this seems very interesting. Do I go for it?" I looked down and saw a paper that said they needed a Director if Fundraising. I thought, yes I will apply to this because I can apply this to any of the future occurrences I might have with companies through this club.
Currently, I am in that position and I am so glad I took this position, because I am able to participate in many different women empowerment events. We've held a couple of different events, over the semester, such as Pizza Night, Hocus Pocus 2, studying and coffee, and a couple of general meetings. As of next semester, we're going to host our fundraiser, along with American Cancer Society for Relay For Life.
